Is WooCommerce a paid service? Everything you need to know to get started!

We won’t keep you in suspense, because the answer to this question is very simple – WooCommerce is NOT a paid service! It’s a question almost everyone asks – and no wonder, since the vast majority of such solutions charge either a commission or a subscription fee. With WooCommerce, that’s simply not the case 🙂
The basic version of WooCommerce – free of charge
WooCommerce is a completely free, open-source plugin that can be installed on a WordPress site. This means you don’t pay for using the basic version or for its licence. It is an attractive solution for those who want to launch an online shop without incurring subscription costs or transaction fees.
WooCommerce versus other platforms
Unlike many platforms, WooCommerce does not charge sales commissions or fixed subscription fees. This is a major advantage compared to solutions such as Shopify, which often charge monthly fees as well as sales commissions. This makes WooCommerce particularly well-suited for businesses that want full control over their operating costs, whilst also looking to save
WooCommerce and additional costs
Although the basic version of WooCommerce is free, there are certain costs that may arise as you develop your shop, mainly related to customisation and additional features:
- Hosting and domain – WooCommerce runs on WordPress, so you will need to purchase hosting and a domain for your website. Hosting costs around 30–50 PLN per month, and a domain usually costs 50–100 PLN per year, depending on the provider.
- Themes and shop design – The platform offers a wide selection of free themes, but if you want to stand out with a professional or customised look, you can opt for paid themes, with prices starting from around PLN 200.
- Paid extensions and plugins – There are many free plugins available in WooCommerce, but more advanced features, such as integration with various payment systems or extensions for marketing automation, may be subject to a fee. Plugin prices depend on the features and the provider, and some of the more advanced ones can cost from a few dozen to several hundred PLN. We address this issue by coding our own plugins, individually tailored to the client’s needs. This option is definitely better, as we can personalise such a plugin to the maximum.
- Optional integration costs – WooCommerce offers many possibilities for expanding your shop, such as integrations with CRM, warehouse management systems or accounting software. In most cases, implementing these may involve additional charges, especially if they are paid solutions.
Who is WooCommerce suitable for?
The basic version of WooCommerce allows you to set up a shop with minimal initial costs. It is the ideal solution for businesses that need flexibility and the ability to tailor the platform to their own needs, without subscription costs or commission fees. Costs may arise as the shop grows, particularly in the case of customisation or advanced features.
